March 23, 2007 - Well... this is it. This is the last time we'll ever get to drive Mitsubishi's O.G. Lancer Evolution super sedan. To say that we're distraught would be a gross understatement - we're really going to miss this car. Now that the new Lancer is here, it's only a matter of time before "new" Evolution IXs are history. The next-generation EVO X will be an all-new machine boasting an all-new platform, all-new engine and an all-new automatic transmission; there's a good chance that the EVO IX is the last of the true EVOs. We're too broke to afford an EVO of our own, so we had to steal Mitsubishi's last EVO press car just so we could experience the awesomeness known as the Lancer Evolution one last time. Mitsubishi really is putting the current EVO out to pasture; there are no 2007 EVOs in the press fleet, so Mitsubishi hooked us up with a 2006 Special Edition. It's a great car, but we've spent numerous articles on this street-tuned rally sedan, so we really don't know what else we can say other than "we'll miss the thing" and "we want one now".
