2008 Lexus IS-F Review

March 14, 2008 - Back in 2003 Rod Millen (Rhys Millen's father) took a standard IS 300 and replaced the 3.0L inline six-cylinder engine with a 4.3L V8. Lexus claimed this was a not-for-production vehicle, simply showing off what a builder can do with a Lexus. Millen's team created what would be the precursor to this car, the 2008 Lexus IS-F, a four-door sedan built on the IS platform only with much larger, ahem, performance numbers. The IS 350, no slouch by any means, carries a 306 hp punch out of its 3.5L V6. The IS-F beats out its six-cylinder brother by over 100 ponies and two gears.
The F moniker shouldn't be confused with the little-known L-Tuned. F is to Lexus what M is to BMW and SL means for a Merc. Most assume the F in IS-F stands for Fast or Flagship. It's said the stylized F (which will denote all future Lexus performance vehicles) is an homage to Fuji Speedway's 27R corner.
